Salvatore Ferragamo's Iconic "Wizard of Oz" Shoes Gets A Make Over

There's no place like home, now is there?

Salvatore Ferragamo’s most famous shoe was a sandal, with rainbow wedge, he created in 1939 for teenage actress Judy Garland, following her role in The Wizard of Oz. As a tribute to Garland (who was a close friend of Ferragamo), and the film, Ferragamo has created a new version of the Varina: a ballerina. Like Dorothy’s red shoes these pumps are also sprinkled with fairy-dust, in the form of iridescent mercury blue, coral or almond-coloured sequins.

The Wizard of Oz has such a tremendous cultural impact on the Golden Age of television. The television showings of the film have taken its fame to a level far above what it had been in the pre-TV and early TV era. It has become almost literally a national institution, a cultural icon recognized by millions. The book itself is full of political interpretations. If you have read the book or seen the movie when you were young, you can revisit this book again to discover new meanings and interpretation in the book.

At Drops of Chic, we have similar sequined ballerina shoes available in pink and blue. These shoes are limited in colors and sizes. Please drop us an email at drops.of.chic.wardrobe@gmail.com for further inquiries.
